Pitch, shingles, trusses and siding for roofs and exterior walls.

Fencing, pavers, turf, soil and driveway materials for work outside the house.

Pool water volume, salt and shock dosing, and game room sizing.

Timber weight, firewood volume and tank capacity.

Material and labour cost estimates, so you can budget before you call for quotes.

Quick, accurate conversions between weight, length, volume and other units.

About deep4sol

The right number, before you commit

Most practical questions have a clear answer: how much gravel, how many sheets of drywall, how much salt for the pool, or what a weight is in another unit. Getting that answer wrong costs time and money. Order too little and the job stops while you wait for a second delivery. Order too much and you pay for material you will never use.

deep4sol is a free library of online calculators and converters built to give you that number quickly, in a form you can act on.

What you can calculate

Our tools fall into a few simple groups:

  • Volume and weight calculators for loose materials sold by the yard or ton, such as gravel, crushed stone, limestone, soil and concrete.
  • Coverage calculators for anything sold by area, including sod, pavers, siding, wallpaper and roof shingles.
  • Counting calculators that return whole units, such as blocks in a wall, pickets in a fence, joists across a span or sheets of drywall in a room.
  • Cost calculators that turn quantities into a budget, including labour where it applies.
  • Unit converters that handle the conversions in between, from pounds to stone and beyond.

We add new tools regularly. Finance, health, math and everyday calculators are next, so the library keeps growing with the questions people actually ask.

Who these tools are for

Homeowners use deep4sol to plan a patio, fence or first drywall job, and to sanity-check a contractor's quote. Trades and small builders use it for quick takeoffs on site. Buyers and estimators use it to turn a drawing into a purchase order. Students and everyday users use it to convert units and check sums without hunting for formulas.

Why accurate inputs matter

Small errors grow fast once they are multiplied through a volume. One extra inch of depth across a 20 by 30 foot driveway adds about 1.85 cubic yards of stone, which is roughly two and a half tons. That can be the difference between one delivery and two.

For the best results, measure the finished size you actually want. Split irregular areas into rectangles and calculate each one separately. Where a product is sold in fixed units, such as pallets, bundles, bags or rolls, round up to what you can buy. Every deep4sol calculator does that rounding for you.

How we build our calculators

Each tool uses standard industry formulas and typical product sizes, and states its assumptions clearly on the page. Densities, coverage rates and product sizes vary between suppliers, so treat every result as a well-founded estimate and confirm it against the spec sheet for the exact product you are buying.

Quick accuracy checklist

  • Measure twice, enter once
  • Check the unit on every field
  • Use finished sizes, not rough sizes
  • Split odd shapes into rectangles
  • Add a waste allowance (most tools do this for you)
  • Confirm with your supplier's spec sheet
Take every measurement twice. It takes a minute and catches most mistakes before they cost you money.

Always growing

New tools added regularly

deep4sol started with construction and home improvement, and it keeps expanding. Finance, health, math and everyday calculators are on the way. If there is a calculation you do often and cannot find a good tool for, tell us and we will consider building it.

They are close enough to plan, budget and order from, and many people do. Densities, coverage rates and product sizes vary by supplier, so confirm the final figure against the spec sheet for the exact product you are buying.

Most of our material calculators add a sensible waste allowance by default, usually 5% to 15% depending on the material. You can change it in the waste field to match your job.

Yes. You can enter feet, inches, yards, metres or centimetres, and mix them across fields on the same form. The result is shown in the units you need.

Split it into rectangles, circles or triangles, calculate each part separately, then add the results together.

No account is needed, and the numbers you enter are not saved.

No. Our tools give quantity and cost estimates for planning. Anything load-bearing or safety-critical should be designed and approved by a qualified engineer or local building authority.
